Of course first, we had some interesting speakers such as Elizabeth Slater talking to us about wine clubs.

Then Dr. Keith Striengler on rootstock evaluation, choosing the best rootstocks for our vineyard plants.

Then came lunch…

First a salad of spinach leaves with spices pecans, red bell pepper, blue cheese crumbles and candied pear vinaigrette with Cap*Rock Chenin Blanc 2010.

The Chenin Blanc was really good with the salad. And yes, the butter balls were good on anything.

Then there was Mediterranean chicken roulade with spinach, sundried tomatoes, shitake mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese with white wine cream sauce served with parmesan risotto and haricot verts with red peppers. This was served with Bending Branch Winery High Plains Rose’ 2010. Very nice combination again.

Tiramisu with Flat Creek Estate Muscato Blanco 2010 was a very nice ending to the meal.

Now you know why we love to come to the TWGGA Annual Meeting. The food and the wine are wonderful.

But, then there are the people…

Here is Neal Newsom and his lovely wife Janice. Neal Newsom received the 2012 Qualia award for his pioneering spirit in the grape growing industry. It was extra special since this was their 33rd wedding anniversary! Really great people who have been such a help to those growers who have followed in their footsteps!

Then came the 2012 President’s award. The new TWGGA president, Bobby Cox, used this time to praise his dad, Bob Cox, Sr., for the great supportive work that Bob has done for the grape industry in Texas.

I think he was surprised when it slowly started sinking in that he was being given a great honor by his son, thanking him for his work, support, encouragement, and love that he has showered on his son working alongside of him.

I think they both had a very enjoyable day.

So, did I enjoy the food and wine, or the people more? The people for sure, but… it wouldn’t have been so much fun without all the great wine also!

Blessings,

Betty
