OK, it is probably considered really tacky if you live in the city to put a hot wire fence up around your flower bed, but what is a country girl to do? At least it is working. The dogs haven’t dug in the flower bed for a week.

This is Bella.

And this is Beau.
Is that a sign that we are just country folk? It looks rather rustic right now, but I am hoping that we can take it down in a few weeks.
We tried the scoldings, the giving treats to the dogs when they “weren’t” in the flower beds, sprinkling out a store bought concoction containing pepper, and now finally — a hot wire fence around it. One of my sons set that up the fence for me. Does it look too drastic? At least it seems to be working. After a couple of weeks, My Honey says I’ll be able to just put up a cold fence around anything else that I want the dogs to stay out of and they well. Now the son that put up the fence is suggesting that I buy a cheap little children’s plastic swimming pool and fill it with dirt for the dogs to lie in. I wonder if they really would like that?

I like your idea – we have not tried the hot wire fence. We are currently trying the pool filled with dirt – It has not worked yet, but maybe
Yeah!! The pool with dirt may be a winner. Came home this afternoon and our dog was sitting in the dirt instead of digging up the beds… of course we watered it w/ the flower beds this morning. Heaped loads of praise on her.
Great to hear it. I think I will try to get the wading pool as soon as I have time. The children and I are busy playing tennis in the evenings this week. I forgot and left the fence unplugged all afternoon and evening, but it was fine. Except for a few new plants that may have bite the dust because of the 5″ rain we got.
