One lonely cotton plant in a West Texas vineyard… This really is a strange site. First all most of the plants you see here are grape vines. Dormant from the winter, the plants look like sticks without leaves on them tied to metal and bamboo poles and wires. But then … there it is ……
Yesterday, we started the first day of testing all grapes, of all varieties, in all plots, in all of our vineyards. The time is finally here. At this time of year, some Texas vineyards in other parts of the state are already harvesting or even finished harvesting. For our longer season on the High Plains,…
Harvest has started, but not all of the grapes are ready yet. We are now finished with around 20% of harvest for this year. Usually the white grapes are ready before the reds. But we want to wait till the sugar content or brix measurement is just right, so that the grapes will make great Texas wine.

We have had a nice cold winter here on the High Plains of Texas for the grape vines to sleep through and to kill off harmful insects. But now it is spring! Time for pruning in the vineyards.
