The competition typically takes place in San Francisco, California, bringing together an esteemed panel of judges, including experienced winemakers, sommeliers, journalists, and other industry professionals.

Wineries from around the globe submit their wines to be blind-tasted and evaluated by the expert panel. The competition covers a wide range of wine categories, including red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines.
